Our team does everything to make you feel at home from the very first moment. Expect a warm, open, and laid-back atmosphere where it’s easy to connect and, more often than not, make friends for life.

The Main House
Our cozy living room, complete with a fireplace, is the perfect spot to wind down the day with board games or to browse through our collection of books and surf magazines.

The Courtyard

This is the heart of our community, featuring large tables for shared meals and access to the TV room and bike storage. Between surf sessions, the courtyard is the place to be: Ping-pong, slackline, Indo Boards, and skateboards are the favorite pastimes here – there’s something for everyone!

The Garden

Evenings get social around our BBQ and plancha grill, while our idyllic garden – complete with sun loungers and outdoor yoga sessions – promises pure relaxation in a peaceful setting.

Out & About

Right outside the Lodge, a scenic cycling path winds through beautiful pine forests, connecting the various coastal towns. There is so much to explore, whether you’re on foot, by bike, or on a skateboard (don’t miss the massive skatepark with a bowl in Vieux Boucau!).

The team

Uli is the owner and manager of the Atlantic Surf Lodge. Surfer for 35 years, he has traveled the globe in search of waves.

With several teaching diplomas in his pocket, as well as 25 years of experience in competition under the various caps of athlete, organizer, or even judge, he has been bringing his touch to the surf lodge for almost 9 years.

He is accompanied by an international, trained and passionate team!

Artist, surfer and facility manager Johnny.

The Brazilian is the caretaker of the Lodge but his job gives him enough freedom to pursue his art.

You are an artist, skateboarder, surfer. How do you like your job as facility manager of the Lodge?
I like the team and how we work. The garden and Uli’s beautiful collection of surfboards make me feel good every day.

Why did you choose the Lodge?
I am passionate about places like this – surrounded by nature, with a tight-knit community and by the coast. It’s this connection with the nature and people that brought me here.

What is the best part of being an artist and what is the biggest challenge?
Keep doing art is an endless search for beauty.

You are known for transforming surfboards into an art piece – is there a connection between surfing and art?
To me, surfing is more art than sports. In the essence it doesn’t need rules or to be judged, it’s a way to express myself.

What role does surfing play in your daily life?
Surfing is part of all decisions in my life: Where I live and how I manage my time. Dedication is something necessary for the things we love.

What is your favorite place in the Lodge?
The garden and the beer fridge!

Camp manager Anna!

The trained hotel manager is, in her own words, the “mom of the house, feel-good manager and creative all-rounder”. There are no problems for her, only solutions!

How would you describe your job?
I solve problems, spread happiness, assist in the kitchen and help wherever help is needed. I plan, organize, prepare breakfast and desserts, and sometimes I’m on the phone chasing lost suitcases.

What does your typical day at the Lodge look like?

I’m usually the first to start the day – of course with the most important thing: making coffee! Then I prepare breakfast for our guests: The full continental breakfast is served with an assortment of fresh baguettes, coffee, tea, orange juice, cheese, ham, jam, honey, Nutella, muesli, porridge, yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables. We also offer our guests lactose free milk and yoghurt. After breakfast, I help out in various areas, whether it’s doing laundry, organizing transfers, coordinating surf courses or writing rosters. Every day is different!

What’s the best part of your job?
That I don’t have to play a role but I can be myself! I have a lot of personal responsibility, can manage my own time and make my own decisions – I really
appreciate that.

What is the biggest challenge?
The end of the season –when it suddenly gets quiet, nobody asks for coffee anymore and I’m no longer needed in five places at once. Then I have to get used again to having breakfast by myself.

What do you like most about your workplace?
I love the ocean, the atmosphere and the energy on the Atlantic.

Let’s meet… Owner and mastermind Uli!

By opening the Lodge in 2008, he made a lifelong dream come true and since then has done everything to ensure that his guests have a dream vacation. Homemade pizza “à la Uli” from the wood-fired oven included!

What does your typical day at the Lodge look like?
Quick surf check at 7 am. If it looks promising, I’ll catch a few waves. If not, office time – answering e-mails and requests.

What is the best part of your job?
That I get to do a lot of different tasks and that it doesn’t feel like work to me. And our team! We laugh lots and often.

What is the biggest challenge?
The long season! You have to approach it like a marathon, manage your strength and look after your health.

With whom in your team you would like to swap for a day?
For sure not the surf instructor! I did that job myself for a long time and know how hard it is – even if everyone thinks you’re just standing on the beach. In all the other areas (kitchen, reception, cleaning, facility management) I jump in from time to time. This gives me a lot of ideas about what could be improved.

Why France?
I like the lifestyle here and the fact that relationships are more important than material things. Germans live to work and the French work to live.

What distinguishes the Lodge from other surf camps?
Our team and our guests are much older than in the average surf camp, we don’t need drinking games to have a good time, and we value high-quality food – we only put on our plates what we like to eat ourselves!
